PRESIDENTIAL ADDRESS ORGANIZED AT THE HILTON NEWARK HOTEL ON SATURDAY JUNE 16, 2007. Mr. Chairman,Special Guest of Honor, Guest Speaker, Members of the High Table, Executive Members of NANJ, Friends and all Well Wishers, Members of Ngwa Association of New Jersey, Ladies and Gentlemen: The Ngwa Association of New Jersey took the decision three years ago to initiate a bi-annual fundraising, when we were consumed by the thought of the bad state of infrastructures in our communities especially in our home state, Abia. Ngwa Association of New Jersey (alias NANJ), is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization having the noble aim of committing her members, financial and material resources to helping the less privileged and the disadvantaged wherever they are in the society. Our programs span a variety of activities conscientiously executed to achieve the desired objectives. We mobilize and unite our members by holding rotatory monthly meetings that help us ascertain the condition of members as well as enable us make plans and generate initial funds critical in the execution of agreed projects. We endeavor to review events that help us maintain and be able to transfer to the succeeding generations our treasured and time-tested culture and the customs of our forefathers especially our Igbo Language that have seen us survive challenges and overcome obstacles in the past. We plan and successfully implement projects that are beneficial to our people, distance not withstanding. As I welcome you on behalf of NANJ, be rest assured that you are among brothers and sisters who are very happy and who appreciate your responding today to their call for help. Like the Macedonians of the Pauline days, we have made the appeal "come over to Macedonia and help us". We are glad you have responded in a very remarkable way. Two years ago we invited you for this same noble cause. You responded to our call. Your genuine endeavors in your physical presence and generous donations went along way to help in our recorded 'over achievement'. God is kind and has looked favorably on our aims and objectives and provided us with the wisdom and strength to appropriately utilize the funds wisely in the implementation of such projects that were thought impossible to execute. It will interest you to know that the response you gave to our invitation during similar past fundraising activities, enabled us to give financial help to thirteen (13) community schools in Abia South (Aba zone) for renovation and rehabilitation. This financial commitment amounts to 3,000.00 (more than N1.5 million Nigerian currency). The association has continued to receive letters of gratitude and commendation from these communities which you deserve a share in the blessings, for such achievements would have been impossible had you not heeded our call. We thank you very much for helping us to do all we did and we look forward to your continued support today and in the future. The Theme of this 2nd NANJ Fundraising is "GOOD PORTABLE WATER FOR THE COMMUNITIES". Impure drinking water is wreaking havoc to the health of our people back home. Many gastro-intestinal diseases and some dangerous worms that can result to very debilitating and deforming conditions are attributable to bad drinking water. We intend to work with the communities and any other body, national or international, to bring good source of portable drinking water to the suffering masses. This project when successfully completed would eliminate the above-enumerated water borne diseases. It would reduce the drudgery of fetching impure water from contaminated rivers and ponds in very distant places. Here again I am obliged to quote from the Holy Scriptures in borrowing a line from Esther the queen whose sole effort saved the Israelites in the days of king Ahasuerus as I declare "who knows whether we have come to the US for such a time as this". Finally, NANJ members are prepared and ready to ensure that your stay is not a wasted one. Activities have been put in place to thrill the eyes and educate the mind. I humbly request you to relax, sit back and enjoy the activities we offer to you. When the program is over, may each and every one of you depart with the traveling mercies of the God Almighty. May he lead you safely home and abundantly bless you for your un-matched generosity in Jesus name. Amen. Bouyant E. Enyiorji (President NANJ) |
